Claim of fame: pH2O physically removes metals from wastewater and brackish water by adjusting and stabilizing
the pH without using chemicals.
Removing heavy metals
Heavy metals are often problematic environmental pollutants, with well-known toxic effects on living systems. In order to remove the metals it is first required to precipitate the soluble components transforming them from dissolved material to solid so that they can be removed from the water. Conditions for creating an insoluble solid precipitate are achieved by the formation of metal hydroxides at specific pH levels. Currently all water treatment plants require chemicals for optimal operation.
With our state of the art technology pH2O has the capability to precisely control the pH levels of wastewater to the optimal degree needed to form solid precipitate utilizing a chemical free electro coagulation method (view optimization levels) Electrochemical control of pH has been known to be effective, yet power consuming, in small scale lab experiments.
The basic pH reactor has the capability to treat <4m3 per hour (1000gl/h) with a low power consumption (0.5kW/m3), low maintenance demand and small footprint device (110cm/90cm) (view lab results). This unit is modular and additional reactors can be added for treatment of higher flows.
Removing earth metals
Water used in households and industry contains dissolved minerals rendering it "hard". Problems associated with unwanted precipitation of solids or with corrosion of metallic parts arise during industrial usage of water, primarily when hot water is used. System parts become encrusted, the deposits usually comprising of calcium and magnesium carbonates. In the textile and laundry industry soft water is essential for keeping the equipment scale free and preventing detergents from clogging to fabrics. Huge quantities of chemicals or membrane filtrations are used to soften the water resulting in environmental pollution and high water consumption. In industries utilizing heat exchangers water is chemically softened and makeup water are used to eliminate scale from settlings and clogging pipes, sprinklers and the heat exchangers’ coils.
